GIA vs EGL, which is better?

Now I'm planning on getting a nice engagement ring for my girl and I already have the budget. Now I just want to make sure that I'll get the most out of my money and somebody mentioned to me that I could get a cheaper ring with an EGL rather than a GIA certified diamond. Is this true and how much is the price difference going to be?
